ZAPI Supply Failure Alarm Caused By Using Wrong Batteries

The ZAPI smart console is an useful tool for diagnosing and setting ZAPI programmable controllers and gauges.

But in real application, the usage of wrong batteries may stop the function of the ZAPI smart console.

It is recommended to use four AA size NiMh / Akaline batteries as the internal power source for the smart console.

For normal AA size NiMh / Akaline batteries, the voltage is 1.2V per cell (less than 1.45V per cell even after fully charged), complying to the Maximum Supply Voltage (Sum of 4 cells) 6.5V.

If you choose the 1.5V Alkaline batteries, the full battery voltage could be 1.7 volts (even 1.8 volts). The total voltage of 4 cells will be over 6.5V and trigger the alarm "Supply Failure". In this case, you will not be able to turn on the smart console.
